A 10× long is liquidated after a 9.5% drop.
Move against you before liquidation
| Leverage | Move that liquidates (approx.) |
|---|---|
| 2× | 49.5% |
| 3× | 32.8% |
| 5× | 19.5% |
| 10× | 9.5% |
| 20× | 4.5% |
| 25× | 3.5% |
| 50× | 1.5% |
| 100× | 0.5% |
With a 0.5% maintenance margin rate, before fees.
How it's calculated
For isolated margin on USDT perpetual futures, approximately:
- Long: entry × (1 − 1 ÷ leverage + maintenance margin rate)
- Short: entry × (1 + 1 ÷ leverage − maintenance margin rate)
Real exchanges use tiered maintenance margin (bigger positions need more) and deduct trading and funding fees from your margin, so the real liquidation usually comes a little sooner. Always check the figure your exchange shows before you trade.
Why we don't trade like this
Crypto coins often move 5–10% in a single day. At 10× leverage that's the whole margin gone, even if you were right about the direction a week later. Leverage multiplies the swings, not just the gains. Why 5× leverage isn't 5× the profit walks through the arithmetic.
CriptoFocus trades spot, and any future futures are capped at 2×. Its worst drop is designed to stay inside 15%. See how it's doing on the live status page.
For information only, not financial advice. Leveraged trading can lose you all of your margin very quickly.
